The AIDS Lady

The AIDS Lady

Friday, October 14
Guadalupe Theater 1301 Guadalupe Street in San Antonio, TX 78207, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture and the City of San Antonio Department for Culture and Creative Development presents “The AIDS Lady,” a one-woman play written and performed by SAAF Testing Counselor and Theater Performance Artist Anna De Luna.

“The AIDS Lady” will play for two shows at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Guadalupe Theater, 1301 Guadalupe Street in San Antonio, Texas, 78207, on Friday, October 14. The shows are one hour in length and are appropriate for high school students and adults. Both performances are free and open the the public.

Through her theatrical performance, De Luna uses art to bring awareness of HIV to the westside of San Antonio. This event will coincide with the National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. As a courtesy the San Antonio AIDS Foundation will simultaneously provide an information table and free HIV/Syphilis screenings in their mobile testing unit. The community and audience members can choose to receive a free test from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. next to the theater parking lot.

"I created The AIDS Lady to reach out to teens and young adults”, says Ms. DeLuna. “I wanted to let them know it's ok to openly talk about sex and to remove some of the stigma or misconceptions they may have. I also wanted to confidentially share some experiences from HIV positive colleagues I served with as an educator/tester over the past 9 years. These stories humanize the virus and remove judgement of those infected. Moreover, these performance narratives help to remove fear associated with AIDS and encourage HIV testing."

For reservations and more information, please call Anna De Luna at 210-218-2459.
